WINNIPEG, MANITOBA

Buckets & Borders is proud to be a UNIFIED Partner of Canada Basketball.

As part of our collective initiative to build courts and tell basketball stories from across the country, Winnipeg’s St.John’s Park was chosen as the first location.

The project was completed in fall 2023 in Winnipeg’s North End.

Jordan Stranger was selected as the artist to design the full on-court mural at St. John’s Park which is titled “Fly Like an Eagle”. “Utilizing my signature eagle, my hope is to encourage flight on the court. This mural represents my love for basketball. “

Jordan’s works are deeply rooted in the traditions within contemporary Indigenous culture. As an Anishinaabe individual originally from Peguis First Nation, Jordan uses his life experiences to drive his artistic passions.

A community led initiative

This project was led by local leaders who call Winnipeg home. Thank you to Manitoba basketball, The Winnipeg Sea Bears, Zuike, Synonym Art Collective, Urban Systems, Warriors Basketball. A special thanks to Lenard Monkman and Terence Ross for their contribution to this project and to the Manitoba basketball community.
