Inspired by The Warriorz ethos of “Basketball is Medicine”, The RB Project was created to grow the game in North Winnipeg.
Members of B&B, The Warriorz, and The Winnipeg Sea Bears worked with students from RB Russell to ideate themes and colours of the on-court artwork, which was then designed by local Winnipeg artist Blake Angeconeb
The project is part of an ongoing partnership with the Winnipeg Sea Bears
Blake Angeconeb is an Anishinaabe woodlands artist who hails from Treaty 3 territory.
The bottom court represents the Earth, with two guardian spirits and small thunderbirds symbolizing the youth. It reflects growth, gathering, and connection. The top court features two large thunderbirds in flight, watching over the land and young people—offering strength and protection.
Inspired by traditional art, the design ties into the belief that basketball is medicine. Like the game, this artwork brings healing, hope, and good energy to everyone who steps on the court.
